After his undergraduate in Physics with Astrophysics at Trinity College Dublin he moved into conservation science by studying for a Graduate Diploma in at the University of Lincoln and an MSc in Professional Conservation at Cardiff University. Following a short placement at the National Library of Ireland he was awarded a year-long ICON/HLF Internship in Modern Materials at the Victoria and Albert Museum that was then extended by six months with help from The Gabo Trust. His research at the V&A is centred on the conservation of plastics, specifically their cleaning. His background also allows him to carry out analysis (XRF, FTIR & Raman) on a wide range of objects.
